Akatsi North MP, DCE donates 400 desks and office furniture to schools

Mr. Peter Nortsu Kotoe, MP for North Akatsi, Volta region, reiterated his desire to eliminate the furniture deficit in schools in his constituency.

“For some time we have identified a shortage of furniture in our schools, and we want to get enough to eliminate the situation where children have to take tables from home to school,” he said.

Mr Kotoe said this at the North Akatsi District Assembly Hall, where he presented 200 double desks, cabinets, office chairs and library furniture to the District Education Directorate for distribution in some selected schools in the district.

The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) helped purchase the furniture.

Mr. Kotoe expressed his hope that the presentation of the desks would contribute to the provision of quality education to young people as a basis for development.

“For a district or constituency to develop, it is necessary to improve human resource development and we are pursuing this vigorously,” he said.

Mr. Kotoe, who is also a member of the Parliament’s Education Committee, said he would continue to do his best to address the infrastructure gap and other challenges that militate against quality education in the region. .

Mr. Peter Simon Ofosu, Chief District Officer, who also presented 200 double desks on behalf of the Assembly, said the focus was on promoting effective delivery of education in the district.

He pledged to continue assisting the Directorate of Education with other teaching and learning materials to support quality education.

Mr. Felix Confidence Agbovi, District Administration and Finance Officer, Ghana Education Service, who received the items, said they would help alleviate the problems of furnishing schools.

He expressed his gratitude to the donors and promised to take care of the maintenance of the furniture.

He called for more support from other caring people and institutions to improve the level of education in the region.
